The view west from the Maths Tower shows a
horizon free of major landmarks. This is because high buildings tend to
be built in the central zones of cities. Manchester University's School
of Architecture is housed in the grey low rise building below right.
There is no doubt that tall buildings add focal points to a city,
helping to proclaim to the world its modernity and prestige.
