"Chorus" by Canadian artist Dominique Blain

Chorus

Inspired by lullabies from around the world, this sound and sculpture installation has as its theme the movement and migration of cultures. It's housed in a darkened hall on the ground floor of the 1830 warehouse, with its bare wooden floorboards, pillars and beams, from which hang hammocks of white fabric.

Forms like sleeping people are lying in the hammocks. The voices of parents singing lullabies to their children can be heard from hidden speakers. The ones that were playing when I visited had an African feel. Oil drums placed around the hall glow red, like the burning embers of a home fire, and when you look inside, you see backlit photographs of hands.

An atmospheric and thought-provoking experience.
