THE GREAT NORTHERN TAKES SHAPE
UP TILL RECENTLY, it was a car park. Three decades ago it was still used as a railway goods warehouse. Soon it will be "The Great Northern Experience", an exciting new entertainment and leisure complex - with cinema, restaurants and many other attractions. Sounds familiar? Yes, over on the other side of the city centre, at the former Daily Mirror plant, another entertainment complex, named "The Printworks" is also being developed. And we've already got the award-winning Granada Studios Tour, Arena 7 cinemas and the Odeon Cinema, Oxford Road, still being used for its original purpose after 67 years.
Will there be enough people to make all these attractions successful? Presumably there must be, otherwise they wouldn't be building them - would they?
A good person to answer questions like this is Councillor Pat Karney, whom I met recently at the Town Hall, and is featured in Manchester People. He's got definite views on that other huge development, the Trafford Centre, and on many other topics... And do check in later in the week to meet another famous Councillor, the Leader of the Council, in fact, Richard Leese.
