We Are European. We are two brothers from South Manchester, two of their flatmates.... and a drummer. We formed in a drunken haze in February 1997 and spent the rest of that year in a cellar, playing guitars and hiding from the real world. Only this year we have emerged. It was safer down there but it's more fun up here. People are talking about us behind our backs, but we're getting used to that now. That's what songs are for: revenge.

What do we sound like? That's what the demo is for. We were City Life's Recommended choice the other week: they said....

"....it's European who are warming hearts witht heir eclectic tunes. Imagine a band that capture the mystery of the Velvet Underground with the abrasive edge of the PIxies? How add to that exciting combination a Kraftwerk/Stereolab angle and you have a band to be passionate about."

So there. We've also been compared to PJ Harvey, Tindersticks and the Beach Boys.... which is all very nice, if rather confusing. Listen to us. We won't let you down

This is European: Fore those of you who like specifics: all the songs are our own.

Anthony Braithwaite is responsible for most of them. He sings, plays guitar, indulges his neuroses, and frightens children as part of our act. Except it's not an act. He's been writing songs since he was fourteen. He sais it keeps him sane. We're not so sure.

Meanwhile, his little brother Michael Braithwaite plays guitar, smokes everyone else's cigarettes and generally pisses the rest of us off. Which is as it should be.

Andy Brook lives in the same house as Anthony. He plays bass and designs airports. We do not lie.

Richard Sullivan is Michael's housemate (are you following this? Are you sorry you asked?) and he tickles the ivories. Apparently.

Dave Killick is our European drummmer. He's very nice. He's bigger than the rest of us too.

What do we believe? We know that there is more to life than three chords.... But also that sometimes one chord is all you need. We hope you believe this too.
