The Greengate and Irwell Rubber Company - the product of an amalgamation of two companies in 1919 - was a producer of general rubber products including rubber belts, rubber footwear and basic rubber materials for tyre retreads.

There were factories in various parts of the UK but the Salford headquarters and main factory were heavily bombed in the 1940 blitz and the 1950 building was part of the post war rebuilding.

I had a friend who worked there for a short time in the 1960s and the building was thought of as a particularly bland piece of post war rebuilding.
