Yes the door above Brinksway has always been quite ominous to me, I remember driving past in my dads van and asking him what it was as a child. He told me about the many times he and other local Edgeley kids used to explore "maggies caves" as they called it. There's a legend behind the caves that a witch called Maggie used to reside in there, hence the name. Needless to say that many children were too afraid to venture into the tunnels after hearing that!
Also yes, the tunnels are quite extensive. There are different sites all over the town where people have unearthed openings but unfortunately many have been sealed. The entrance at the site we found was a hole dug about 2 feet into the ground and someone had used some kind of pneumatic drill to bore through the concrete into the network below. It truly is fascinating stuff. I can't wait until this crappy weather disappears so we can venture back down and get some photos and videos.
