Oh wow. Couldn't have wished for anything better. Thanks a million. Brilliant pics. Where did you find them? Are they yours? Care to elaborate on their acquisition?

Smile Pickmere [ Recollections of day trip ]

Parents had organised to take we children from the local streets by coach to the said Pickmere. I had never heard of the place, was very excited having been told there was a big lake and fun fair and boats etc. we travelled by local coach [Sharp,s coaches ] When we eventually arrived,it seemed like miles and miles away to me,we were told we had to have our dinner [lunch]before we could dash off to enjoy ourselves. We went into the cafe at the lake side, they were obviously expecting us.The tables were all set lovely clean table cloths, knives, forks napkins and in the centre of the table was a plate of lovely cakes.I immediatly pronounced to my older sister that that one is mine pointing to a lovely cake. There was two boys sat at the same table as us,we did not know them, one of the boys immediatly said no it is not I am having it.We were promptly told not to touch the cakes until we had eaten our dinner. When dinner arrived and all at my table began to tuck in I waited until their mouths were full,I grabbed the cake took a big bite and announced to the boy that that is my cake.I put the cake back until I had eaten my dinner,no one was going to eat it now only me.My poor sister was horrified with me and I got a big kick off her under the table.I enjoyed my day at Pickmere, but I enjoyed the cake more. I was aged about 7or 8 years

Default pickmere photos

Love the old photos of Pickmere. My Dad was a scrap metal merchant and he and his pal also had a furniture removal van. They put a load of old tyres in the van and threw around 14 of us local kids in the back!(we felt secure sat in the tyres but it was pretty dark once the doors were shut!)We then set off on our magical mystery tour and destination was that lovely Lake-the funfair,icecream,freedom!Ahh-happy days!!
