Smile Trafford Bus Fire 1934

I have recently finished a web site and book about a bus fire in Manchester. My Grandfather was a bus guard and he was awarded for his bravery with a bronze medal. If anyone is interested in this story you can visit my web site.

Smile Introducing myself to the forum

I have recently written a book and set up a web site regarding my family history in Manchester. I am D Owens and have an interest in the bus industry, and Joseph Brotherton the first MP for Salford whom I am a descendant of. I require as much information as possible to embark upon my next book dedicated to his memory. My family links always bring me back to buses. Joseph passed away quietly as he travelled on an omnibus in 1857 from Pendleton to Manchester.
My Grandfather was Patrick Beirne who was hailed a hero following his gallant conduct in saving the lives of passengers from a burning bus in Trafford.
I look forward to sharing information with any like minded people.
07th July 2008.
Many thanks.

In case you weren't aware there is a book called 'The Making Of Victorian Salford' by R.L.Greenall and chapter 2 is 'The life and times of Joseph Brotherton'. There are various other references to him in the book.
