As Sales Manager at BV at the time I was involved to some extent. If my memory serves me right the organisers mortgaged thier houses to fund the first show and they operated as Rainy City Cruisers.

The fantastic conversions, restorations and paint jobs always made me regret scrapping my 1959 upright Ford Pop when the engine gave out in 1966!

One of the organisers had an Americam police cruiser with lights, siren and public address which caused the local constabulary some consternation when it drove down Hyde Rd to promote the first show.

great photos,

rainy city r still goin currently based in stockport,

the organisers are currently writing both a book and a video of the show so i hope it will be due out soon.

i used to luv the specials, eg chevy v8 milk float (pastured express)., in fact the rover v8 milk float is still owned by its builder in bury.
