Default Stockport Road, Levenshulme Photos

I grew up and lived in Levenshulme for over 20 years before emigratring to Cyprus in 1992. I lived at the Crescent Fish Bar which was opposite The Crescent (Duh?) and next to Favorite TVs. The shop was between Portville Road and Ballerat Street. I would love to exchange period pictures and recent pics from this area. Also, I attended Crowcroft Park and Burnage High School and would greatly appreciate any pictures of these schools for my personal collection.

Hi, you will find info and photos about Crowcroft and other schools at Manchester History, David Boardman's excellent site.

Also, try a search at the excellent Mancester Council Image Archive, loads of Levenshulme images there, including several of The Crescent

I was a pupil at Crowcroft too, left in 1969.

I found some photos I took of Crowcroft Park in 1999...here's one of the school, with a rather dramatic sky (click for larger image)

I have also uploaded the full collection of both park and school from 1999 to My FotoPic site

Hi Costas,

I remember your chippie with fond memories! Many a night spent in the queue waiting for a tray of meat & potato pie, chips and curry!

The Crescent chippie building is now derelict. Most of Stockport Road is now a mix of Asian takeaways and Afto-Caribeen /African businesses.

I live in Yorkshire but go back to Leve now and again, so next time I'm there, I'll take some snaps of The Crescent and surrounding area.

Default Fantastic! Thanks tmj

That is fantastic, thank you very much tmj9815. Costas actually rang me up from Cyprus and we had a great chat on the phone about Levenshulme. Unfortunately I don't know Levenshulme well enough to remember that actual chippy. I was in the car - parked further up on Stockport Rd Ardwick - and I needed to go, but I said 'Put a post on the Forum and maybe someone might be able to help. You might have to wait a few months, but you never know!'. Well that's a great response time! The Manchester Forum is definitely proving its worth!
