I have had no complaints thus far and I do put in a considerable amount of effort weekly to provide the latest Media City : UK photo journal. This personally costs me more in terms of time than either not posting or just writing a response to a post. As a Professional and an IT Manager, I have no interest in Spam but just thought this thread would be interesting.....

Please advise Aidan... I will hang fire on posting until further input?
Hi mawwebsite, I think I might have been a little harsh with my previous comment, I can see that you are not blatantly spamming the site, and I do look at your site which is quite good also. I know Aidan and I’m sure Aidan would rather you kept posting so long as it’s relevant, my apologies to you, its hard sometimes to get a what you mean accross with just text...

Apologies accepted bazzor... you should check out the rather 'hairy' full size Crane pictures I will be posting tonight of the first crane on the development site. A little sad I know but I managed to catch the guys putting up the last part of the first crane. Looks like you need a head for heights to do that job. They will be at the usual link after 9pm.

Here is a link to the crane mid-construction :

I think you understand the size of this when you see where the crane driver sits at the top of the crane (if that is where they sit), its then when you can appreciate the immense size of the crane.

What camera and lens are you using?
Do you have the EXIF data (shutter speed, aperture, focal length etc) for your shots?

I am using a Canon S5 IS. I have had 6 or 7 cameras in the past but this is the best one I've owned. It really produces clear shots even on maximum zoom combining Optical 12x with the Digital Zoom. The following in depth information was obtained from the rather useful Online EXIF website at the following link :

Default It's OK, keep posting but maybe add more text

It's OK, the photos of Salford Quays Media City are a good resource, but good forum etiquette might be to add a bit more text and give people more material for discussion.

Also if you could include a few sample photos in the actual entries, that would provide more visual interest for the forum that people could see without having to go off to another site.

Default MediaCityUK (MC:UK) Salford Quays BBC Move

Sorry Aidan... In an earlier reply I actually requested help on how to add images in order to conform with good forum etiquette. I have tried typical methods with no luck as the text editor does not have an 'insert image' option as for other forums (it's not obvious to me anyway). Am I missing something. Please advise. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers Mark.

Default MediaCity:UK Salford Quays Photographic Timeline

The site now consists of 6 cranes with a 7th on the way (crane base in place). Most of the concrete cores of the new BBC building look to be in place or started, rising to 9-10 stories (maybe more) for the highest cores.

The land for the taller buildings off to the side of the main BBC building (right from the Lowry Centre side) is still being dug and prepared but more temporary cabins are in place off Broadway (the road that runs through the back of the Quays) presumably to house more MediaCIty:UK project staff and a contingent of the BBC (cameramen) looking at the latest articles across the internet.

The current phase of the build occupies 35-40 acres (next to the City Lofts flats) with other phases planned across the water on the Imperial War Museum side.

The overall site is something of the order of 200 acres but no visible signs of development has started outside the main phase 1 area currently. No doubt this will depend on discussions with other media companies being persuaded to join the MediaCity:UK estate.

For a photographic timeline for November / December (and pictures back to June of this year), go to the current link and click the appropriate month. This link also contains other internet links to interesting threads relating to the build :

Question A question

Media city is well on the way;BBC has announced the intention to dispose of Television Centre in 2013 as the refurbishment costs are too great.
They have explicitly said that Children's, Radio 5 Live ,Sport etc will move.
The largest studio floor they have is at TV Centre. Currently used for Blue Peter and Strictly Come Dancing, but also many of their Saturday evening ratings winners like Any dream will do, and the other months long weekly Lloyd-Webber free advertising!
What is the future of the shows like Strictly Come dancing and its ancillary staff, orchestra, singers, professional dancers all London based?
No answers evident from BBC at present, but will Media City offer the large studio for set for these shows? Blue Peter will move of course as part of the Children's set up.
Interesting shift if Media City is to to be the in house venue for all those light entertainment live ratings shows. They are labour intensive productions, which could bring huge benefits to Salford. Anyone have any ideas?
