Default Manchester Civic Society Forum newspaper

I've just received copies of the Manchester Civic Society newspaper Forum. I've not seen it for a while. It has some excellent articles on current issues, most notably the proposed congestion charge for Manchester and the so-called 'icebergs', new buildings currently under construction on the corner of Princess St and Whitworth St. The name of the development is Origin and the developer is West Properties. There is some considerable debate about them.

Other topics include Manchester's aviation history, the opening event for Rock FM, and other stuff.

Manchester Civic Society are also holding some events and tours, I hope to go on some of them.

They have a new website Manchester Civic Society

I helped to set up their old one around 10 years ago.

Any thoughts about Forum and the Manchester Civic Society past or present?

I used to read Forum online on the Society website, but the website just disappeared quite a while back. The new website seems to have only the front page of a 2006 edition :/

Default Civic Society website and Forum

Yes, I helped them to set up the old one around 10 years ago, and chose the domain name manchestercivic.org.uk. I helped to maintain it for a while.

Then time pressures and other commitments meant I had to hand it on to someone else.

The Manchester Civic Society have had some ups and downs but I think that's inevitable when you have a group of people trying to work together.

Manchester needs a pro-active and outspoken group to keep an eye on development and support debate and discussion.

I'm very glad to see they are making their presence felt again.

The new website needs a bit more work! Actually it's nice to get the magazine. You can pick it up for free in the city centre or become a member and have it delivered.
