Default Steam Loco question

This is slightly off topic as it is straying into trains but can anyone answer this question.

When I would have been about 9 or 10, approx 1969-70 ish, I remember seeing a steam loco parked up at the bottom end of the carriage sidings at Queens Road. I could see it from the window of the train from Bury into Victoria, between Woodlands Road and Manchester and it was definitely after the end of steam on BR.

You could'nt get a brilliant view of it as it could only be seen from above as the electrics passed over the sidings on as viaduct and from head on but I could tell that it was a Midland/LMS type from the smokebox door and it looked like either an LMS Jinty 0-6-0T with the side tanks removed or a Midland Railway 2F or 3F.

I saw it quite often then it disappeared. Anyone else remember this/know what it was/what happened to it?

Default Re:Steam Loco question

The Loco in question was indeed a former LMS Jinty.
It was in use as a Carriage Heating Boiler and carried the number 2022 and I believe it is now preserved at the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley.

Two old L & Y Barton Wright 0-4-4T locos (904 & 950) also survived here at the opposite side of the carriage shed, but they were later cut up at Newton Heath Depot. What a pity they did not last into preservation. At least I have the photographs of them.
