Default The Local talent thread. - Music / Words/ Art etc

Taking up Admin Phil's idea, I have started this thread for any Mancunian artists to display or link to their MANCHESTER RELATED* work. Musicians, artists, poets, anything really.

Although it is on another link, I'll start with my own music/video tribute to a town centre back street area that I am particularly fond of. Go to my Myspace site and at the bottom left you will see a Youtube video for the song 'Chapeltown'. You can either watch the video in low res, download the video in hi res, or just listen to the track without the video. Hope you like it. and, come on guys, lets use this thread to showcase the many unheralded creative people around our great city!

MySpace.com - Mamucium Son - Manchester, UK - Pop / Electro / Folk - www.myspace.com/mamuciumson

* Must be Manchester related. We don't want this thread turning into the X factor now do we?

Default Working for a Nuclear Free City

Working for a nuclear free city are playing at the Royal Oak in Chorlton (cum hardy) on Saturday 23rd Feb. They are a great band and hail from Wilmslow. Not technically Manchester but close enough.

Default More Live Music!

Thought I would let you know that for the last twelve years a great old mate of mine has been playing at 'The Bulls Head' by the market square in Stockport. Some of you may remember from the 60's, Pete Macclaine and the Dakotas later The Clan! Same guy with a great line up! It's a very lively night but if you don't take your ear plugs, don't blame me!! Beers good as well!

Oh and while I'm at it! There's The Guitar Club at the Amblehurst Hotel in Sale! Everyone is welcome! Just bring along your guitar if you have one, you dont have to be great! Even learners are welcome! Or just come in for a free and easy sing along.

Default My 'Manchester Anthem' Song/vid

Hi all and thanks again to Aidan for useing my song on the excellent CP Lee podcast in 2006.

Being someone who loves all things Manchester I found this song easy to write, but not a good singer made it hard to record.

please tell me what you think

Many thanks

Jay

lyrics:
JAMES HERRING - 'MANCHESTER ANTHEM'

THEY TOLD YOU I WAS MISSING BUT I WAS'NT LOST
I WAS WALKING THROUGH THE STREETS IN THE COLD AND FROST OF
M A N C H E S T E R.

LOOKING FOR THE PLACES THAT I USED TO KNOW THEN I SAW SOME PEOPLE AND IT STARTED TO SNOW ON

M A N C H E S T E R.

THEN THE SUN CAME OUT AND IT STARTED TO RAIN I FELT THE GREY CELLS TINGLE IN THE BACK OF MY BRAIN EVERYTHING'S CHANGED BUT IT IS STILL THE SAME IN

M A N C H E S T E R.

CHORUS:
MANCUNIAN RAIN DOWN ON ME UNTIL I DROWN
FAME FILLS THE HEART OF THIS HALLOWED GROUND ..OH WOW!
MANCUNIANS REIGN IN THE CITY OF THE FREE....LIKE YOU AND ME

BIG BANG! WELL EVERYONES BEEN 'CAUSE YOU MUST HAVE BEEN GRABBED BY THE MUSIC SCENE
HEART BEAT IS THE RADIO THE WHOLE WORLDS TUNING TO THE T.V SHOW
I HAVE BEEN LAID OUT BY IT'S CREAM- HEAR THE THUNDER FROM THE FIELDS OF DREAMS

IF YOUR A FAR FLUNG LOVER OF WHAT USED TO BE OR THERE IS DIRTY OLD TOWN IN YOUR HISTORY OF

M A N C H E S T E R.

IF YOUR HEARTS DRIED OUT THEN GIVE ME A SHOUT I'LL SEND YOU BOTTLED RAIN FROM THE FLOWING VEINS OF

M A N C H E S T ER.

REPEAT CHORUS.

CALL OFF THE SEARCH I'M STAYING OUT TONIGHT :-)

Cool

I'm bias because i know James, but i still loved the song first time i heard it, then played it a few times and couldn't stop singing it for the rest of day

It was probably so easy to write because it was just a moment of inspiration born from your love of "everything Manchester". Big Bang, Corry Street, weather, History, Mancunians, Manchester Beat.

Brilliant!

Yeah, love it.

Trust me, songs about localities are never as easy to write as they sound. Some good lines in there, and a good arrangment too.

Nice one boss!
