I have a 1978 US import vw westaphalia who I love very much, but he seems to be having some kind of coronary heart attack which no one including a garage full of old boys who worked on these when they were new, seems to know the answer too!
First off he is a 2lt injection with a management unit. It goes like this. Start him up and hes fine for about five minutes. Clutch in and he just looses all power or drive along and he will start to bunny hop as though he is running out of fuel. If he stops you have to wait to restart him almost like the engine is flooded and the choke isnt working, then he will start but try throwing him into gear and all revs die off. Then when he does go again throw him into second and all power drops off again.
To dat we have tried, a new management system, new alternator, distributor, rotar arm, temperature point and bits in the fuel system : thought we had it but no, 24 hours later and he has gone again!!
Any ideas?
