If you have a text that needs to be translated from German to English, you could go to an agency, but it could be that my Manchester-based independent German to English translation service might be a good alternative option.
I can translate all kinds of text from German to English. I am a life-long German language enthusiast and a published writer in English. I have a BA and MA in German and French from Trinity College Dublin and have reached near-native speaker standard in German.
Here are my specialist areas
- Translating websites from German to English
- German to English art catalogue translation
- Translation of photography-related subject matter
I have built up a niche as a translator in these areas because of my professional experience and contacts in media, art and photography, but I can also undertake a wider range of subjects. Please contact and I will let you know if I am able to help you.
There are some advantages to using me for translation work:
- You are dealing directly with me the translator.
- My rates are competitive
- You are my personal client, and so I will take a special interest in
your project and work with you as closely as possible.
Translation is just a part of what I do. I also teach German as well as photography and I am also a writer. I don’t do translation all the time – I couldn’t as I find it too intense and demanding. Translation is hard work! Whenever I take on a translation task I am able to approach it with a fresh mind and devote my full energy and creativity to it.
Here is how I like to work:
Stage 1) Initial assessment – I will assess the text to be translated and if suitable I will take it on. Please note, if I am not the best person to do the translation, I won’t take it on. I may be able to refer you to other specialist translators.
Stage 2) Rough version – I do a rough version of the translation. I will contact you if I have any queries about the content.
Stage 3) Improved version – I will edit and improve the translation and send a draft for you to look at.
Stage 4) Final version – I will do one final check to ensure the translation is as good as it can be and send it to you.
Stage 5) Proofreading – I recommend passing the translation to an English-speaking member of your team or associate. Or I can arrange for it to be proofread by a proofreader (at extra cost).
My main motivation for doing translation is because I love languages, I love German, my first foreign language and English, my native language. Please note I am an experienced writer and journalist. Translation is just as much about your ability to write English as well as understanding the foreign language in all its subtlety and complexity.
