This is Heuston Bridge, with the station of the same name visible beyond. Sean Heuston was one of the executed leaders of the 1916 uprising. The bridge, built in 1828 commemorates a visit by King George IV in 1821. The bridge is being restored and will be used by Luas trams.

Even as a child it struck me how extremely narrow this bridge was. Since 1982 traffic has used the neighbouring Frank Sherwin bridge. I still have a tendency to refer to the station as 'Kingsbridge' as that's what my father, born in Abbeyfeale Co Limerick in 1908, and others of his generation used to call it.
