Berlin GDR

1984 Eberswalder Str U-Bahn Stn

Underground trains of 1920's vintage were operating on the East Berlin U-Bahn or underground line right up until the 1980's, The cars are painted in the yellow livery of the BVB, eastern counterpart of the BVG - Berlin Transport Authority. The driver is sitting cross-legged with the front door open for ventilation. The ancient train, Soviet-style street lamps, dilapidated facades and faded lettering are all typical of the GDR in its final years.

This scene is like a time-capsule. Riding the old East Berlin subway cars was like a trip back to the 1920's, but if you're feeling nostalgic you could ride the trams in Milan.
