Jazz fusion album from 1977 by Weather Report, with virtuoso playing by keyboardist Josef Zawinul, bass player Jaco Pastorius and others. The first track 'Birdland' recalls the famous New York jazz club and the jazz musician Charlie 'Bird' Parker. The cover art by Lou Beach featuring a giant trilby hat with thunderstorm and cityscape was nominated for a Grammy.

For me this music conjures up vivid mental images of the streets and skyline of Manhattan. From the very first entrance of Jaco Pastorius's golden metallic bassline, the skyscrapers, the yellow taxis, the subway trains and the neon signs start to appear. This album could inspire thousands of photographs of New York and other American cities.
