Walkden Gardens is an area of lawns,
footpaths, flower beds and wooded areas arranged around an ornamental grass walkway. It
is known as 'The Maze' because it is divided by hedges into sections, each one
with a character of its own. There is a fuchsia garden, a wisteria arch and pictured
here, an open-air theatre lawn. The dovecote from the M60 construction site has been
resited in Walkden Gardens.
Walkden Gardens is an enchanting place worthy of any stately home in the countryside, and yet it is situated just 5 miles (8km) south west of Manchester city centre, just 10 minutes walk from Brooklands Metrolink Station. I visited on Sunday 18 July 2004 to view and photograph the Dovecote, which is featured in the M60 book.
