Phil Wood has been broadcasting since the very early days of Piccadilly Radio around 1973. His was one of the faces of the station once seen in large format photographs on the south facade of Piccadilly Plaza. His interest in Motown, Stax, Philly and other black labels has been influential. Today people in Manchester and around the world can hear him on his weekday afternoon show on BBC GMR www.bbc.co.uk/gmr and on Saturday mornings too. To me, Phil Wood is one of the defining voices of Manchester and the North West. His style combines humour, a fascination with the quirky and offbeat as well as a love of words and the English language. Find out more about him here. I was interviewed by Phil Wood on Tuesday 12 October 2004. About the photos This image is from the portfolio of Aidan O'Rourke photographer writer website publisher.
