Checkpoint Charlie: Recreation of the Wall, floodlit

The Wall, or a recreated version of it, has returned to the streets by Checkpoint Charlie. This newly built structure serves as a reminder of the original Berlin Wall which stood here from 1961 to 1990. It's part of an exhibition by the Berlin Wall Museum.

The reconstructed wall differs in certain respects from the original: The concrete looks different, the colour is not quite the same, the surface is smoother, the original wasn't floodlit from below. Still this is meant to be a memorial, not a faithful reconstruction of the original - that would be impossible. All power to the Museum of the Wall for not allowing us to forget.
