Liverpool's famous Pier Head area overlooks the River Mersey close to the centre of the city. On the left is the Liver Building, with one of the Mersey Ferries moored at the terminal. For me, the Mersey crossing has lost much of its atmosphere and appeal as it is now mainly a visitor attraction and no longer a form of mass transit, as it used to be. The Staten Island Ferry in New York and the Star Ferry in Hong Kong are still working ferries with frequent crossings.
