Ring road sign at Merrion Square in south central Dublin. The signs were designed and put up by Dublin City Council in mid 2003 and are intended to divert traffic away from the city centre. Colour coded letters and symbols indicate roads and destinations including main roads N1 and N2 as well as the south Dublin suburb of Ballsbridge. The signs are innovative in function and design, and bring together a lot of information in a small area. The first signs had to be taken down and redesigned after they were criticised by the Minister of Transport, Seamus Brennan. More on the Irish Examiner website.
