Collage of neon signs visible from the square in front of Leipzig Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). Names include DB Deutsche Bundesbahn (German Federal Railways), hotels Novotel and The Westin Leipzig, the double M signifying the famous Leipzig trade fair, PSD Bank and LVB Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (Leipzig Public Transport). Promenaden is the shopping centre built below the main concourse of this vast station. The clock shows 11.13 pm The technique of sperimposing neon signs was used by German photographers and film makers in the 1920s and 30s. Neon signs mounted high on buildings add to the nighttime glamour and excitement of the city, but Manchester has very few.
