A cruise liner majestically sails down the Hudson River past Lower Manhattan and the Twin Towers, which are partially obscured by low cloud. Our viewpoint is one of the abandoned wharves on the New Jersey side. A lone silhouetted figure stands looking out across the river.

This is a detail of part of a 35mm transparency, one of the few remaining photos I have from my first visit to New York in 1981. I didn't notice the lone figure until I scanned, cropped and enhanced this photo in May 2004.
