British flag Union Flag flying from Manchester Town Hall

The British flag, named the Union Flag, and often referred to as the Union Jack is a combination of the flags of the saints of England, Scotland and Ireland. It was first used from around 1800 when Ireland was brought fully under the rule of the Westminster parliament in London.
