This statue stands on O'Connell Street Dublin near the GPO. James Larkin was a prominent trades union activist and a powerful orator. The statue captures the character of James Larkin, as seen in old photographs from around the time of 1916 uprising. I have met one of James Larkin's great granddaughters and there is a striking resemblance. At the moment, autumn 2000, the statue is currently standing in the midst of building work, as O'Connell Street is being extensively remodelled.
