The BT tower, formerly known as the Telecom Tower, and originally, the Post Office Tower, was completed in 1965. We are standing almost underneath the tower looking directly up. The tower was closed in 1971 after a suspected IRA bomb exploded near the top. The restaurant closed in 1980. At the street entrance, a sign in four languages says: "Not open to the public".
I remember going up the GPO Tower in the 1960s. It was an exciting and futuristic experience. It needs to be renovated and re-opened to the public. The Berlin Fernsehturm and Toronto CN tower are both open to the public and are major tourist attractions.
