The west side of O'Donovan Rossa Bridge is lit up by morning sunshine. Dublin City Council's offices are on the corner across the river, with Christ Church Cathedral up the hill beyond. O'Donovan Rossa was a republican hero and founded the paper 'United Ireland'. The bridge was built in 1813 and was originally named Richmond Bridge, after one of the Lord Lieutenants of Ireland. On each arch there is a keystone head, similar to the one on O'Connell Bridge. The older bridges, with their neo-Classical style balustrades are an integral part of the character of Georgian Dublin.
