Yorkshire Drax Power station cooling towers & pylons (bw)

A new road curves towards a roundabout next to the giant cooling towers and power hall of Drax power station in the east of Yorkshire. White clouds from the towers billow up into an overcast sky. Pylons support power lines which deliver the electricity to the national grid.

Power stations are visually stunning features on the landscape. They raise questions about energy conservation and global warming. Some people think these are clouds of smoke, but it is just water vapour.

Nikon Coolpix 990. It was a dull day, with very little colour in the image, so I desaturated it to black and white. Two shots at two exposure levels combined together, one aimed at the clouds of vapour, one aimed at the towers and road.
