This old footbridge across the River Medlock near Daisy Nook to the east of Manchester is simply a slab of stone laid across the river. Gravity has caused it to droop in the middle. A new footbridge provides a safe crossing.

This is a bridge at its most basic, and yet it has something in common with the M60 motorway bridge just a few hundred yards away: It dips down.
