British Airways Concorde G-BOAG made a farewell
visit to Manchester Airport on Wednesday October 22, 2003. Here it is, lights shining
in the dull and drizzly weather, taxiing towards the Aviation Viewing Park on its way to
the southern end of Runway 1. In the background on the left is the end of what used to
be called the International Pier, with Terminal 3 visible in the distance through the
air churned up by Concorde's engines.
When I was a child at primary school in 1968 I entered a fancy hat competition with a 'Concorde' hat made of a rolled up Stockport County team photo, paper wings and a cardboard tail. It won. Concorde isn't just a plane, it represents the technological dreams and aspirations of a whole generation.
