Merrion Square is the largest of Dublin's squares. It was laid out between 1762 and 1764. Many famous personalities lived in Merrion Square including Daniel O'Connell and Oscar Wilde. Today the houses are used mostly as offices but there may be some apartments.
Merrion Square, the park and the houses are like a time capsule. Walking through the gardens there are virtually no contemporary elements visible. I took this photo of Merrion Square in 1981 and photographed it again in 2005, a gap of 24 years, or one tenth the age of the square.
