There are some parallels between Alexandra Park Manchester and Central Park New York - they are both rectangular in shape, both have open fields and lakes with waterfowl, both are overlooked by other buildings, both date from the 19th century.
The most striking difference between the two parks is how Central Park is now so much better maintained. Alexandra Park looks frayed and run down. Also, Alexandra Park is mostly deserted, while Central Park is normally full of people. Then there's the crisp New York light and air... Manchester should take the superb renovation of Central Park as an example, and do the same with Alexandra Park.
