Dora Bryan, one of Britain's best loved comedy actresses came to the opening night of the play 'A Taste of Honey' by Shelagh Delaney, at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre, Friday 21 April 2006. Dora Bryan gave the performance a personal standing ovation. She played the role of Helen in the film 'A Taste of Honey', made in and around Manchester and Salford in 1961.
See my review of the film, with a photo of Dora on the DVD cover.
It was thrilling to meet Dora Bryan, a living legend of British cinema and comedy. I chatted to her about the making of 'A Taste of Honey', her family tragedies - her daughter died at the age of 36 - and her life in Brighton, which revolves very much around her local church.
