Saudi Arabia: Man sitting at fire drinking tea

A man dressed in Arab-style clothes sits by the fire inside a Bedouin-type tent drinking mint tea from a small glass. The darker brown 'thawb' is worn by Arab men in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states during the colder winter months. Dignitaries and VIPs often wear robes with gold trim like this.

This is one of my students from the Institute of Banking in Riyadh. He invited senior teacher Mark Lowe, some students and me to his family compound in the desert outside Riyadh. I uploaded this image on 15 December 2003, the day after it was announced that Saddam Hussein had been captured, and exactly 12 years after the photo was taken.
