Bathed in a luminous green mist, the skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan rise up into the night sky. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center stand high above the others, the red lights at the top just showing through the swirling atmosphere. The lights of the city shine up into the clouds creating an aurora borealis effect.

Taken in August 1981, this is one of my first images of a city. In the intervening years I have never seen a view more breathtaking than this. I will shortly be re-photographing this view now changed. .
