All road signs in the Republic of Ireland are bilingual, with Irish in lower case, and underneath, English in upper case. Here, the English language name 'Dingle' has been covered over. During 2006, legislation was passed giving legal status only to Irish language versions of place names within in the Gaeltacht or officially designated Irish-speaking areas.
