The 'B of the Bang' sculpture was
commissioned to commemorate the 2002 Commonwealth Games. In the early hours of Thursday
6 January a metal spike fell off, but the official opening went ahead on 12 Jan
2005.
B of the Bang is daring in vision and execution, though perhaps the 'bang' concept is not easy to identify with. Also the rust colour seems to me to go against the idea a 'white hot' explosion. Nevertheess the sculpture has generated a lot of publicity and debate. It remains to be seen whether people take it to heart as have done with the Angel of the North.
