Looking from the east towards the centre of east Berlin along the Frankfurter Allee, named as Karl-Marx-Allee during the Communist era.

The two towers belong to the Stalinist-style apartment buildings constructed during the early 1950s. Built as 'palaces for the workers' in the Soviet 'Stalinist' style of architecture. The avenue is lit up with rows of lanterns. In the distance, just visible through the mist, is the East Berlin TV Tower or Fernsehturm. This view captured in 1992 not long after the fall of Communism. A GDR-style road sign is still in place. On the right are illuminated fountains. The Stalinist style apartments are a valuable architectural artifact and an icon of the former East Berlin.
