View east along the Leipziger Straße in the eastern part of Berlin During the Cold War era, Leipziger Straße was the first main street you came to when visiting East Berlin via Checkpoint Charlie. The blocks of flats seemed to proclaim the fact you were in the East. The smell of 2 stroke petrol mix was a strong feature of the East, though I didn't consciously notice it at first. By 1992, when this photo was taken, the East had started to merge with the West.
