We are looking from Victoria Station pedestrian footbridge down the line into Salford. On the left is Sacred Trinity Chapel. In the middle the restored Threlfalls Brewery, now high tech offices, on the right is Salford Cathedral. In front of us used to be Exchange Station, closed in 1969 and later demolished.

On the left Europe's longest platform used to extend from Victoria into Exchange station. I have vivid memories of setting off from this platform on the journey to Ireland in a steam train.
