Skyscrapers under construction in the development area of Dubai Marina, around 10 miles (16km) to the south of the old city.

At Dubai Marina, a vast city is rising out of the desert. Thousands of apartments in clusters of high rise buildings are for sale. An artificial lagoon has been created by excavating earth from the ground and allowing the waters of the Gulf to flow in. This is how Dubai Marina looked on 27 February 2006.
