Four years later, on a sunny Saturday morning like this one, terrorists parked a white van packed with explosives just across the street to the left, next to the yellow sign. After warning calls were received, there was only just enough time to evacuate thousands of people before it exploded, devastating this part of the city centre, and changing the face of Manchester forever.

The 15 June 1996 bomb changed Manchester forever and could have killed and injured thousands. The terrorists have never been brought to justice.

This is part of my small archive of pre 1996 photos. Find out more about the bomb and its aftermath at Rebuilding Manchester
