Carlisle Pier is where the ferry to and from Holyhead used to dock. The upper image shows the west side of the pier. Railway tracks used to curve to the left and into the shed, allowing passengers to transfer between train and ship. The spur was removed around 1981-82 when, in preparation for the DART, the trackbed on the main line was lowered to allow installation of overhead wires. The lower picture shows the east side of the pier, including the former passenger entrance, currently occupied by boat dealership Boyd Boats. I remember the opening of this pier, with its corrugated metal exterior. It was one of only a small number of modern buildings in the Dublin area I remember from the 1960s. In 2007, Carlisle Pier is awating redevelopment and may not look like this for much longer.
