Flooding along the River Mersey during the heavy rain of November 2000. This is Ford Lane which runs along the south bank of the river. The river has spilled beyond the metal railings and onto the lane in front of us. The triangular 'Flood' warning has been placed in the middle of the lane.

Flooding has been less of a problem along this stretch of the Mersey since the banks on either side of the river were fortified. We are looking east along the south (Cheshire) side of the river. Ford Lane leads to Didsbury Golf Club. Northenden Golf Club is on the other (Lancashire) side of the river. Due to the meandering course of the river, the respective golf clubs are located on the opposite side of the Mersey from the districts after which they are named. This entire area is located within the City of Manchester.
