The Clarence Hotel has a very distinctive interior reminiscent of the early to mid 20th century. It's said the hotel was popular with visiting salesmen from other parts of Ireland. It was bought by the band U2 in 1992 and has been promoted as an upmarket 'celebrity' hotel.

In 2007 I was shocked to hear about Bono's controversial expansion plans for the Clarence Hotel involving demolition of some of the Georgian buildings and the addition of a 'Skycatcher' structure on the roof. More info on the Irish Architecture website.
