Road signs in the Republic of Ireland are mostly new, and give distances in kilometres. The Irish (Gaelic) version of place names is given in lower case letters above the English in all upper case.
For some reason I find the British style bilingual road signs in Wales more visually pleasing. Maybe it's the use of italic script. The old style Irish signs made of cast iron were a design classic and and an integral part of the identity of the highways and byways of Ireland. Sadly they have mostly been replaced due to the adoption of the metric system.
