Abney Hall was the home of James Watt who built Watts Warehouse on Portland St Manchester. The red brick medieval style house dates from the late 1840's and was extended in 1893-4. Agatha Christie also spent time here. Later it became Cheadle and Gatley Town Hall and in the early 80's the Byrom School of Languages. Now it houses offices.

Abney Hall is featured in the M60 book. I worked at the Byrom School of Languages in early 1982 teaching English to a Libyan student.
